Mardi Gras is right around the corner, and as usual, New Orleans will be in a non-stop party. Despite the holiday being just days away there hasn’t been this much cheer around this time of year like this year, and it is due to the youth of the New Orleans Pelicans are growing in front of their fans very eyes. While Zion sat, Ingram blossomed to an All-Star star, and pieces like LA exports Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart learned their new place in their second NBA cities. A city that once was one crushed due to the Anthony Davis trade request, it is a city that has found a second life.
The team currently sits at 24-32, which does not pop off the page by any means. But, when this team is in action, they jump out the gym. It is all coming together in the ‘Big Easy’ due to their young stars Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. Williamson has been nothing short of unstoppable since his debut on January 25th and has silenced the critics who were skeptical about both his knee and weight. He’s averaging 27 points per game on 57% shooting, and along with that 7 rebounds as well.
What sets this team apart from their recent success, is the Pelicans strength of schedule.
This Pelicans team not only has the easiest rest of the way, but they also have the NBA’s biggest nightmare at the moment, Zion. Zion is a player that is revolutionizing the game of basketball. His superior slashing ability, along with his amazing efficiency is something that has opposing NBA coaches and scouts shake their heads. They have no answer for the Duke product, and honestly it will take some time until they find one. He has scored 20+ games in all but two. It is up to the Pelicans to continue to mix up the offense with Zion, and if they are able to be healthy down the final stretch, can exceed expectations and potentially make the playoffs as early as this season.
