Hawks Hit The Road to Face Rider on ESPNU

The Monmouth Hawks Men’s Basketball team will be traveling to Rider University’s Alumni Gymnasium for an hOURglass matchup for their away home game of the 2019-2020 season. Their road finale will start at 9PM due to the recent announcement that the game will be televised on ESPNU.

These two teams come into this nationally televised matchup trending in two different directions. Hawks come into this winning their last two, and fresh off of arguably their best overall team effort in an 89-78 win against the Quinnipiac Bobcats. While the Broncs look to right the ship after going winless on a two-game skid losing both at Iona, and at St. Peters.

For the Hawks to improve on their 6-9 road record tonight, they need another signature team win like they did against the Bobcats. On Saturday’s game, there were 5 Hawks eclipsing double digits, and one would assume they need to have a diverse scoring output similar to that to counter a Broncs roster that has over four 1,000-point scorers on the roster (Vaughn, Marshall, Scott, and Jordan).

The last time the Hawks and Broncs met came earlier this month, as the Hawks then defended their perfect home record and beat the Broncs 90-84 at the Ocean First Bank Center. The Hawks were sparked by George Papas and Salanve in the first meeting. Papas had a career night which included four 3’s, while Redshirt Junior Ray Salnave matched him in the scoring column led by his 11-12 effort from the foul line.

This matchup includes two of the top four teams the MAAC conference has to offer. The Broncs are 9-1 at Alumni Gymnasium, while the Monmouth Hawks have a conference best six road victories, leading the charge with four total MAAC conference road wins. These teams are as even as it gets, and it comes down to who will shine under the bright lights. Tune into WMCX 88.9 FM to find out.
