On Saturday, March 7th the UFC invades “Sin City” Las Vegas, Nevada as two title fights headline the main card as apart in UFC 244.
The card is headlined by a five round Middleweight title fight between undefeated Kiwi kickboxer Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya verses the 42-year-old ageless wonder, and 2000 Olympic wrestling silver medalist Yoel “Soldier of God” Romero.
In the co-main event, the women’s strawweight championship of the world is up for grabs as the UFC’s first Chinese Champion Zhang Weili look to give her nation something to cheer for as she defends her belt for the first time against former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
The fight also marks the return of ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley. O’Malley was a rising star at 135 before he served a two-year suspension for testing positive for Osterine. The Montana native looks to make up for lost time and improve on an undefeated record at Bantamweight as headlines the ESPN+ prelims.
If Yoel Romero is victorious on Saturday, he will be the second oldest UFC champion at age 42. The Cuban fighter although having an extensive wrestling background is also one of the most feared strikers that the UFC has to offer. For Israel Adesanya, he has legend status looming if he is able to defeat Romero. The City Kickboxing product looks to add another name to the list just months after knocking out former champion Robert Whittaker in his home country of Australia.
As for the co-main event, Zhang Weili looks to remin perfect in the UFC and add to her overall 20 fight win streak as she looks to defend her 115-pound title against the “Strawweight Queen” Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Zhang comes into this fight after a very rocky fight camp. She had to train in three different countries for this fight, due to the coronavirus that has struck her home country of China. As for Jedrzejczyk, after losing to ‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas in two straight title fights, she had an impressive win over Michelle Waterson in Tampa and looks to climb the mountain once again in being UFC Champion. This is the most excited I have been for a UFC card in a while and quite honestly, I believe that the Weili-Jedrzejczyk fight will outshine the main event. We have a great night of fights ahead of us. Make sure to sit back, tune in and enjoy a great night of mixed martial arts.
