The 10-part documentary series from ESPN entitled “The Last Dance” is now being set to release on April 19th. The 10-part documentary series highlights the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls as they were on their quest to win their sixth NBA title in an 8-year span. The only two years the Chicago Bulls did not raise a banner, it was because NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan was taking his talents to the baseball diamond instead of the hardwood. The documentary, which had an original release date of June 2020, has been moved up as to April 19th a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
ESPN has been doing an amazing job of trying to keep sports fans entertained during this hard time, and by the network moving this release date up, us sports fans are feeling something we have not felt in a long time, anticipation.
The documentary gives hoops fans a never before seen look at the Chicago Bulls quest for trophy number six and there are a lot of pieces to this puzzle. Along with notable players, opponents and staff, the documentary calls on people from far and wide such as Chicago native Barack Obama, the late Kobe Bryant, and rapper Nas. The documentary series will be broadcasted live on the ESPN airwaves from April 19th – May 17th and will be available internationally via streaming service Netflix.
This is something that I personally am very excited to watch. This Chicago Bulls team is often regarded as one of the most dominant dynasties in all of sports, and one thing I am looking to discover is what made this team stick together through all the turbulence the team had to go through. From balancing the egos of Jackson, Jordan, Pippen, and the wild card that is Dennis Rodman this team went on to climb the mountain top yet again as their story played out in front of millions around the world.
Another thing also anticipating being very sad when they show the interviews of the late Kobe Bryant. Jordan was one of the few who eulogized Bryant at his February 24th funeral and described to those on hand at the Staples Center that him and Kobe had a brotherly bond. It is some of the last recordings of Kobe the before his tragic helicopter accident back in February.
Make sure to tune in and comment with your reactions and thoughts on the upcoming documentary!
